Update to Health & Transition Services Families – December 18, 2020

December 18, 2020

Dear Health & Transition Services Families,
By the end of day tomorrow, both of the people who are being supported in the red zone will have recovered from COVID-19 and moved back home. Our one remaining positive staff case will also be recovered. This is cause for great celebration and we will be doing something fun to mark their recovery and the occasion. That will leave the red zone empty. We continue to monitor all of the people supported in H&TS closely and will notify you if your loved one develops symptoms and requires a test for COVID-19. We won’t be able to declare our outbreak over until later in January, however we are feeling more comfortable now given the last week of no new cases.
As Joanne van Dyck shared earlier this week, visits in all areas, with the exception of Adult Health Services – West (AHS-W) reopened for visitation yesterday and we hope to reopen AHS-W to in-person visits in time for Christmas on December 24. Our new visitation spaces are ready to welcome you when you return. They meet the requirements of separate entrance and increased ventilation for the safest visits possible. We’re looking forward to seeing you in person again! If anything changes and we need to move back to virtual visits, or if you prefer a virtual visit, we will ensure this happens for you.
The holidays are a time of celebration, and the staff are working hard to ensure this year is just as special for your loved ones. I know many of you would like to share your gratitude with the staff, and we encourage you do so in a safe way: individually packaged items and single serve baking or food items are more than welcome, however we cannot accept any shared plates or containers of treats.
We were happy to have some staff included in the initial vaccine offering this week and are preparing for when it’s more widely available to our staff and your family members. We will follow a similar process for consent as we do with the seasonal flu vaccine. We are receiving vaccine information, fact sheets etc. from Shared Health and will post them in the COVID Section on our website here. As we all know it’s important to read credible information about the vaccine so we’re committed to sharing all of the information that comes to us through Shared Health and Public Health on our website for you to read.
We’re all looking forward to the Christmas Party on Sunday from 1:30 – 3:30! I hope you can all attend. You can register for the free event via this link: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/stamants-bilingual-family-christmas-party-tickets-131369873829.
Thank you for your continued support. Please don’t hesitate to be in touch if you have any questions.
