Update to Health & Transition Services Families – May 14, 2021

May 14, 2021

Dear H&TS Families,
We have great news to share, outdoor visits have started!
Additionally, people supported can be taken off the grounds for walks/bike rides by staff and designated family caregivers. PPE must be worn correctly at all times-if you need a refresher please ask one of our screening or unit staff.
Virtual events are continuing with two new bingo sessions announced this week. There have been record numbers of people enjoying all of the virtual activities and they are a welcome addition to our programming!
The recent positive case revealed no high risk contacts in staff or people supported and I want to commend all of the staff for their continued diligence with PPE, getting vaccinated, staying home when sick, and getting tested.
Our staff are essential and continue to show up and dedicate themselves to supporting your loved ones-even with the recent switch to remote learning for Winnipeg and Brandon schools.
Adults 18+ are eligible for the Moderna and Pfizer vaccine and youth 12-17 are now eligible for the Pfizer vaccine. Eligibility for second doses will start soon if you’ve only received one shot. If you haven’t already received your first dose, you can schedule an appointment through the Provincial booking line. We are working closely with the Province to ensure your eligible and consenting loved ones are being prioritized for their second doses, and that any new individuals and youth are prioritized for their first doses. You will be contacted by a member of our care team to discuss the vaccine and consent if your loved one has not yet received a first dose and is eligible.
The rising numbers are concerning but we know that adhering to the current Public Health orders and getting vaccinated can make a difference. Hang in there everyone-we will get through this together and I know there are better times ahead.
Stay safe,
Sarah Mankelow
Director, Health & Transition Services
