Family Update May 28 2021

May 28, 2021

Dear St.Amant Families:

This week has been significantly better at St.Amant with many people we support and staff recovered from Covid-19 and only two new cases reported – both in the Community Residential Program.

Dr. Reimer, the medical lead of the vaccination task force in Manitoba joined the Long Term Care call and shared that they are seeing fewer seniors getting sick and dying of Covid -19 during this third wave, which means the vaccines are definitely working. Through this third wave the group most affected has been between 20 and 39 year olds, one of the last groups prioritized for vaccination. Today they announced that anyone who received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine on or before April 3 is now eligible for a second dose. If you’re wondering about your eligibility, you visit the vaccine eligibility webpage. If you have children in your life and have questions about them receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.  Children’s Healthcare Canada is hosting a virtual town hall. You can register and submit questions in advance here.

Yesterday, many people we supporting participated in another virtual Dance Party. This is definitely one of my favourite events! It’s the small things that we can look forward to that are keeping us all going. Our team continues to plan interesting and diverse online events that are open to everyone we support.

Our Pandemic Committee continues to be working hard ensuring that we are doing everything we can to keep everyone safe. Right now we are working on contingency staff planning, promoting and motivating staff to get vaccinated, supportive visits to community homes to review proper PPE protocols and to answer any questions etc…

As always, family support means the world to our teams, so thank you for staying the course, continuing to be positive and hopeful and staying in touch. I hope you take advantage of the warmer weather, and find some meaningful ways to spend the weekend while respecting the Public Health orders.
