Health & Transition Services Families Update – June 4 2021

June 4, 2021

Dear Health & Transition Services Families,

The week has come to the end with no active COVID-19 cases, the latest staff case was resolved earlier this week. I am so proud of all the staff at H&TS for doing everything they can to keep your loved ones safe-including staying home when they have any symptoms or a household contact.

Our teams have really enjoyed seeing many of you during your outdoor visits; the Buhler Garden is beautiful, and the new outdoor visit spaces are shaded and peaceful. The scenery around our grounds is also incredible; I took a walk the other day and felt so inspired by the greenery and blooming flowers! This weekend’s forecast calls for temperatures in the mid-thirties and everyone is at risk for the effects of heat. There are shaded visitation areas available outside but please remember to not remove your PPE during the visit.

We continue to hear that our return to normal is dependent on high rates of vaccinations in Manitoba. If you haven’t yet, please book your first dose! Everyone over the age of 18 is eligible for either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, and they are proving to be very effective against COVID-19. If you received your first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on or before April XX, you are now eligible to book your second appointment. Please access the Government of Manitoba’s website for the most accurate information on the vaccines (https://manitoba.ca/covid19/vaccine/index.html).

Please stay hydrated before and after spending time outside. We will be keeping an eye on your loved ones closely as well to ensure nobody overheats and everyone is comfortable as possible. The air conditioning is on in the building, there are lots of shaded areas, and everyone has their own supply of sunscreen.

Stay safe,

Sarah Mankelow

Director, Health & Transition Services
