Update to St.Amant Families – September 24, 2021

September 24, 2021

Dear St.Amant Families,
I really want to thank everyone who has decided to be vaccinated and to everyone who continues to follow all of the Public Health guidelines, including when visiting with people supported by St.Amant. I also want to remind everyone that we still need to be vigilant about symptoms – even if you’re vaccinated, you can still catch COVID-19, and although symptoms may be very mild, you can still pass it on to others. Please remember to stay home and to book a COVID-19 test if you have any symptoms, no matter how mild.
This week we have two staff with COVID-19, both staff are recovering well and we did not have any further exposure after contact tracing due to vaccination and good PPE use.
As fall creeps in, St.Amant Foundation supported an enormous effort by our Volunteer Services department to create an Imagination Kit for every person we support. This kit is an IKEA shopping bag full to the brim with different crafts, activities, games, and treats! As the pandemic drags on these kits are replacing our Leisure Guide activities and giving people lots of variety and fun activities to keep them busy as the weather gets colder. As we delivered these kits this week, many people exclaimed that it felt like Christmas and were making plans to get online with others to compare kits.
As we approach our first National Day for Truth & Reconciliation, I hope that you will pause and take this opportunity to learn, reflect or to work on your healing journey. Here at St.Amant, we all have the responsibility to acknowledge the truth of our past and to work together toward reconciliation. We are hosting a sacred fire at the Spirit Cottage grounds next week for people we support and staff as one opportunity for reflection.
This weekend I expect to see lots of our community out at FreshCo (2 Alpine Ave) in St. Vital on Saturday from 11:30 am-2 pm for the final wrap of this year’s Free the Spirit Festival. You’ll see food trucks, have a chance to buy a lottery ticket and hopefully catch up with some friends. I hope to see you there!
