Dream Getaways Now Possible With $1M St.Amant Spirit Cottage By Hans Kraus Family & Qualico

September 17, 2014

The St.Amant Foundation invites the community on Thursday, September 18 to the unveiling of the $1M St.Amant Spirit Cottage by Hans Kraus Family & Qualico, a dream getaway for individuals with a developmental disability and autism. Recreation is not usually spontaneous for individuals with a developmental disability or autism. The Spirit Cottage is fully accessible and will allow the 1700 children and adults St.Amant supports across the province to connect with nature, play in an inspiring and safe environment, enjoy spontaneous adventure and delight in recreation year-round! The ceremony begins at 10:30 am at St.Amant, 440 River Road.

“The four-season cottage is equipped with lifts, a wheelchair ramp, three bedrooms and has all the amenities one needs for a memorable weekend getaway, including an in-ground pool, fire pit and generous decking,” said Juliette Mucha, St.Amant Foundation Director.
The space feels rural but it is close enough to St.Amant for regular medical care. The open concept cottage replaces the Grey Nuns’ Cottage that was donated to St.Amant in 2009. The previous cottage was a small, three-season cottage that was not accessible and did not allow for overnight stays. Led by $250,000 donations from both the Hans Kraus Family and Qualico, the cottage was built with the help of over 25 major donors.
“With the support of many generous donors, this project will help ensure the individuals and their families we support will have a warm and relaxing recreational option that is inclusive and accessible for all,” said John Leggat, St.Amant President & CEO.
Visit stamant.ca/cottage for more details. Information about booking the cottage will be announced soon.
