Fun And Memorable Night At UFFW Banquet

November 24, 2014

For the second year, the proceeds from the United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg Banquet and Ball will support the St.Amant Foundation. The event held in The Fort Garry Hotel Grand Ballroom was sold out and over 50 tickets were donated to St.Amant, allowing individuals we support and their staff to have a fun & memorable evening. Three life long friends, Paul, Aaron and Mike, featured in the St.Amant Foundation’s year end campaign, were also in attendance. They received a standing ovation after a short video about their interests and contributions to their community was shown. After the formal part of the evening ended, everyone took to the dance floor and Mike sat in with the band on drums for a gool ole CCR tune.
St.Amant President & CEO, John Leggat, invited Brent Bucholtz to present this year’s St.Amant Together Award to Alex Forrest, President of the United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg. St.Amant’s Community Residential Program supports Brent and the two have forged a fast friendship over golfing and dining together.
The St.Amant Together Award honours a person who encapsulates St.Amant’s mission of freeing the spirit, fulfilling potential, together and our values of collaboration, hospitality and respect through his or her dedication to people with developmental disabilities and autism. We are pleased to have presented this award to Alex as he has shown tremendous support for St.Amant, helping improve the lives and social connections of people with disabilities.
He is currently part of the St.Amant Foundation Fundraising Committee, served on the St.Amant Foundation Board of Directors from 2011-2014 and Co-Chaired the St.Amant Free the Spirit Festival in 2012. In addition to these formal roles, Alex has always been willing to support St.Amant, volunteering at events, participating on committees and rustling up support as an ambassador.
The UFFW is an organization representing over 1500 active and retired firefighters in the City of Winnipeg. Alex has remained an active firefighter throughout his years as President of UFFW. Last year’s banquet raised $18,000 for the St.Amant Foundation.
