Special Olympics Manitoba Hosts Online Flex Series to Keep Athletes Active

Special Olympics Manitoba (SOM) has had to shift and innovate their programming to keep our athletes engaged and active. 

To continue to help fill the void left by their in-person programming, they are excited to be launching a 10-week SOM Flex Series! From April 5 to June 12 athletes who register and participate in the many virtual offerings will be entered into weekly draws, as well as the grand prize draw for a Nintendo Switch.

To register for the program, log in to your account at https://portal.specialolympics.ca and under “sport,” select Fitness.

Athletes need to register to be eligible to win a prize. Upon registration, athletes will receive a SOM fitness package which includes a yoga mat, workout towel, water bottle, resistance bands, and more.  

  • There is no fee to participate.
  • All SOM Flex Series events can be found on the calendar at somflex.ca/events.

Prizes to be won (prizes will be awarded through random draw)

    1. Grand Prize – One (1) Nintendo Switch Lite with one (1) Game Traveler case and one (1) Super Mario 3D All Stars game
    2. Half Way Prize – TBD
    3. Weekly Prizes – Two (2) $25 Tim Hortons Gift Cards will be awarded at the end of each of the 10 weeks
    4. Names that have been drawn for the weekly prizes will be put back in the draw for the Half Way and Grand Prize.

How to Win

    1. Athletes will receive their name in the draw for each virtual and other designated SOM Flex Series event they take part in.  The more you participate, the more chances you have to win.  See breakdown below
    2. Registering to be a part of the SOM Flex Series – 1 entry
    3. Participating in weekly Virtual Sessions (including Yoga, Zumba, Nutrition, etc) – 1 entry per session completed
    4. Participating in SOM Social Hour – 1 entry per session completed
    5. Participating in SOM Variety Night – 1 entry per session complete
    6. 1 entry for every 10,000 steps taken each week (can be counted using SOM Pedometer provided or other electronic means).  Example – Darren completed 42,000 steps during week one of the Flex Series and will receive 4 entries to the draw
    7. Step counts need to be submitted to Erin at eharper@specialolympics.mb.ca by noon CT on each Sunday starting on April 11 to be eligible for that weeks weekly draw
    8. Bonus events will be added throughout the 10 weeks of the Flex Series.  Keep an eye on the SOM Flex Series Facebook Group, SOM website and SOM social media channels (Twitter, Instagram, etc) for more opportunities to enter the draw.
