French-speaking community members, CRP homes, and staff gathered at St.Amant’s Spirit Cottage to celebrate culture, language, and connection. Hosted by the French Language Services team, the event featured food, games, and conversation in French, creating opportunities for friendship, practice, and inclusion.
The gathering encouraged support workers to use French in a natural, supportive setting, even if they’re still learning. For the people supported by St.Amant, hearing and speaking French fosters comfort, confidence, and a stronger sense of belonging.
“When I speak French with the people I support, they feel more at ease, which enhances communication.”

Meaghan from St.Amant’s Communications team attended the event and spoke with staff and participants. One team member shared that using French at work helps them connect more easily with the people they support, many of whom are bilingual.
Another participant said, “This gathering was wonderful because it gave us the chance to meet new friends and connect with other French-speaking homes. Sharing pizza, playing games, and talking in French together—it makes us feel like part of a bigger community.”
A staff member reflected on the sense of belonging: “I love the people I work with, it feels like family. My first language is English, but I also speak French, and it makes a difference when you can connect with people in their own language.”
“We wanted to create an event where everyone could practice, build confidence, and support people in their own language.”
— French Language Services Team Member
A member of the French Language Services team explained that the event was designed to help staff feel more comfortable using French and to encourage language learning in a welcoming space. “For the individuals we support, hearing French at home shows respect, builds trust, and helps families feel confident their loved ones are being cared for in the language they’re most comfortable with.”
Friday’s event was more than just a pizza party, it was a celebration of language, inclusion, and community at the heart of St.Amant.
