April 28, 2025
Did you know that each week, 400 St.Amant volunteers help enhance the lives of people with developmental disabilities or autism? On April 10, the Volunteer Appreciation Awards celebrated the kind, caring, and gracious individuals who donate their time to St.Amant. In honour of Volunteer Appreciation Week (April 27 – May 2), we will be sharing some words from the award recipients on their experience volunteering at St.Amant.
Gabrielle Walkty was the recipient of the Youth Volunteer of the Year Award. She is known for her incredible artwork, featured on this year’s volunteer button and tote bag. Through her kind and considerate nature, Gabrielle has managed to capture the very essence of what volunteering at St.Amant feels like: community, love, and belonging.
“I’ve volunteered since 2022, and collected a library of amazing memories. However, my favourite one must be when I get to attend the Free the Spirit Festival. Being a witness to the compassionate and kind community within St.Amant, always warms my heart every year.”
“Volunteering has always brought me a lot of joy. Whether I’m conducting interviews for potential volunteers or painting interactive murals in the Bhuler Gardens, it’s always the highlight of my week. I always look forward to seeing the volunteer team and the other volunteers as they are always welcoming and lovely to talk to. Through its amazing volunteer culture based on empathy and community, St.Amant has taught me a lot about myself. It has enabled me to forge valuable connections that I will never forget. Because of this, I’m forever grateful and I hope to remain an active volunteer for years to come!”
Thank you, Gabrielle, for graciously sharing your talents, time, and beautiful spirit with the St.Amant family! Please visit our Volunteer page if you are interested in volunteering or would like more information about our Volunteer Services.
