September 13-19 marks Direct Support Professional Recognition Week!
At St.Amant, Direct Support Professionals work tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of the people they support. They are everyday advocates and frontline champions, bringing joy, connection, and a deep sense of trust to the relationships they build. Their work is the quiet strength behind every success story, supporting people to live with dignity, joy, and hope.
In honour of DSP Recognition Week, we will be highlighting some of the Direct Support Workers who work so hard to ensure that the people supported by St.Amant live fulfilling lives. Beneth has been making a diference for 13 years, finding passion in supporting others.
I’ve been with St. Amant since August of 2013, making it 13 years of working with the team. My personal outlook is to always see the joy in daily life. I’ve always found passion in helping others find the best qualities of their lives, too.
My responsibilities as a DSP play a significant role in the lives of the individuals we support. Becoming an advocate and a support system is just the beginning. We also help them to learn and develop, explore and gain new experiences.
Each day is rewarding, from the minute our day starts to our last bit with the people we support. Without fail, they express gratitude and happiness. This allows us to know that our job is being done right.
We are their voice. We collaborate with the individuals supported to find solutions and execute a plan that allows us to provide them the support that they need at any given moment, while at the same time promoting and encouraging independence. This allows them to acknowledge that they are their own person, and that they are capable of achieving their own things.
Everyday is memorable. I look forward to coming into work knowing that I am going to make a positive impact on the day to day lives of the people supported. When they reach a milestone, it never goes unnoticed. We celebrate all achievements with them, the team and their family members.
