Dementia Care Series: Health Care Advocacy

Dementia Care Series

This 9-part dementia care series is from the NTG Canadian Consortium and covers health care advocacy, aging and how dementia affects adults with intellectual disabilities.  It teaches how to make quality observations, recognize age-related changes, and understand the progression of dementia.  It introduces the NTG-EDSD screening tool and emphasizes the role of caregiver input.  The modules also address creating dementia-friendly environments, applying key concepts and understanding responsive behaviors to better support individuals through proactive, flexible approaches.

Health Care Advocacy

This module outlines the 4 essential steps in health care advocacy, making quality observations and applying these skills through a case study. It also emphasizes the important role of caregivers’ observations to ensuring accurate assessment and interventions.
