This 9-part dementia care series is from the NTG Canadian Consortium and covers health care advocacy, aging and how dementia affects adults with intellectual disabilities. It teaches how to make quality observations, recognize age-related changes, and understand the progression of dementia. It introduces the NTG-EDSD screening tool and emphasizes the role of caregiver input. The modules also address creating dementia-friendly environments, applying key concepts and understanding responsive behaviors to better support individuals through proactive, flexible approaches.
Introduction to Aging
Older adults need different kins of support as they age. This module explains how those needs change and what can help them cope. It also describes the difference between normal again and health problems and highlights special aging concerns for people with intellectual disabilities, especially those with Down Syndrome.
