This training is open to St.Amant staff and Volunteers (exceptions apply). If you are a staff member, please speak to your supervisor to register. If you are not a St.Amant staff member, and would like more information about this training opportunity, please email training@stamant.ca.

Training Overview

This is a two-part training. First part is this Theory workshop, second is a Skills session (one week part). You must complete the theory workshop to be eligible to attend the skills session. You can return to attend any future skills session after completing the two-part training in full.

Plain language writing is clear, concise, well-organized writing that the reader can understand after reading it only once. This workshop explores literacy skills in Canada, and current best practices related to writing in plain language. If you regularly communicate with staff, families, members of the public or to large groups of people, this workshop will give you the tools you need in order to write communication that everyone can understand.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe why writing in plain language is important.
  • Recognize times to use plain language.
  • Commit to writing in plain language.
  • Identify ways to make your writing clear and easy to understand.
  • Demonstrate the ability to calculate the reading level of your writing.

What you can expect:
In this workshop you can expect lectures, videos, and group discussions. If your session date is online, you must join with a device that has a webcam and microphone. If your session is in person, see the location or your confirmation email for details.
