Training Overview

This workshop features a non-intrusive role play that helps participants to understand the effects of intergenerational trauma and provides an opportunity for news ways to approach service delivery for indigenous people Participants may find some content may about the harsh treatment experienced by First Nations children in residential schools disturbing. Everyone is encouraged to prepare themselves emotionally before attending.

Facilitator Bio:

Cathy Fobister is recognized amongst many within Northern Ontario as a Helper, Mentor and Facilitator. She is a proud member of Ginoogaming First Nation, currently living in Thunder Bay, Ontario where she promotes her specialized wisdom and knowledge with and for the Indigenous people. As a strong advocate, she assists with developing successful and positive relationships and services for the Indigenous population within various services such as, hospitals, legal services, health services, program delivery and First Nation communities.

Through the knowledge gathered throughout her lifetime and her own personal healing journey, she has spent the bulk of her lifetime dedicated to bridging relationships within the Indigenous population and those servicing this population.

A successful mental health worker, grief and trauma counselor, and a facilitator from many programs, she is most known for her Anishinaabe lifestyle and knowledge and most importantly her understanding of intergenerational trauma and its impacts and providing a path to individual, family and community healing.
