Understanding Dementia Leaders Workshop

Overview: Understanding Dementia is a 1.5 hour introductory session designed for leaders at St.Amant. The presenters will share about dementia, incorporating their professional and personal experiences. Taking this course will allow you to enhance people’s safety and quality of life by making sure they are receiving the supports they need at the best time.

Learning Objectives:

  • Distinguish between normal vs not normal aging.
  • Identify the warning signs of dementia and the value of early recognition with a specific focus on the National Task Group (NTG) Early Detection Screening for Dementia (EDSD) tool.
  • Learn about brain changes and the behavioural/ functional changes that people may experience in early, mid and late stage dementia.
  • Learn about the clinical services available and when to refer to gain additional supports.

Participant Experience:

This workshop includes the use of lecture, videos, group discussions, and breakout rooms. Participants are expected to join using a device with a webcam and microphone to fully participate. ​


Corporate Education training is open to all St.Amant staff and volunteers, and hosted on Zoom. You may need approval from your supervisor to attend. If you are not a St.Amant staff, and would like more information about training, please email training@stamant.ca
