Getting Connected
People have the right to know what personal information is kept about them and to access it whenever they want. They are provided educations about their rights to privacy and confidentiality, and they can choose not to share certain information if they prefer. People also have the right to decide what they want to share about themselves with others – whether it’s their personal story, experiences, or contact information.
It’s important that people are supported to make decisions about who they want to connect with and to share information with those they choose. They should also be encouraged and supported to create email and social media accounts if they want to, and to establish an online presence that aligns with their goals. These decisions are entirely theirs to make.
Resources in this section will include guidance on privacy and meeting new people, the St.Amant privacy guide, understanding rights and responsibilities, tools to support decision making, and the responsibilities of Supported Decision Makers (SDM), and the Public Guardian and Trustee (PGT).

Rights and Responsibilities
Knowing your rights is key to living a full, empowered life. It’s about more than just understanding what you’re entitled to, it’s about being able to advocate for yourself, make informed choices, and engage confidently with the world. Everyone deserves to know what their rights are, what responsibilities come with those rights, and how to use that knowledge to navigate life with dignity and respect. It’s not enough to just know your rights, you also need to understand how to apply them in real-life situations. Accessing education, resources, training, and experiences, is crucial to making sure people can act on their rights, advocate for themselves, and participate fully in their communities.
