What causes seizures?

 

There are a number of things that can cause seizures…

-       Problems with brain development before birth

-       Lack of oxygen or damage to the brain during birth

-       Brain injury (car accidents, trauma, skull fracture, etc.)

-       Brain tumour

-       Alcohol and drug abuse

-       Metabolic conditions (low calcium, glucose, and sodium or high glucose)

-       Infections

-       High fever, heat stroke

-       Autoimmune disorders (conditions when the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys healthy body tissue)
