Teaching Social Skills to Children on the Autism Spectrum

Learning objectives:

  • learn why individuals with ASD have difficulties learning social skills
  • learn some effective ways of breaking down complex social skills and how to teach them to students with ASD.

Synopsis: This workshop is for parents and staff working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders that would like to learn more about developing social skills. This workshop will provide an introduction to parents for understanding the challenges related to social skills for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as cover evidence-based methods for teaching social interactions. We will review the social skills necessary for success in school and community settings.
