Learning objectives:

  • learn exactly what Applied Behaviour Analysis is and what it isn’t
  • learn strategies for increasing desirable behaviours
  • learn strategies for decreasing challenging behaviours

Synopsis: This workshop will help attendees learn about what ABA is and what it isn’t by clearing up the misconceptions as well as the terminology. A variety of research based strategies will be presented such as how to increase desirable behaviours using reinforcement strategies (positive reinforcement, reinforcing alternative or incompatible behaviours) and proactive strategies to help in the home, daycare or school settings. We will also review some evidence based strategies for decreasing challenging behaviours (i.e., extinction, punishment, and time out).

Strategies used to increase behaviours will be presented (i.e., positive reinforcements and visual strategies) and strategies for decreasing challenging behaviours will be presented (i.e., extinction and punishment).
