September 17-18, 2015
St.Amant is pleased to offer a two-day training in Mental Health First Aid for families. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the help provided to a person developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Just as physical first aid is administered to an injured person before medical treatment can be obtained, MHFA is given until appropriate treatment is found or until the crisis is resolved. The skills learned in MHFA can help people to better manage potential mental health issues for themselves as well as family members, friends, and colleagues.
Mental Health First Aid Basic is a 12-hour course that discusses the following mental disorders: substance use disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and psychotic disorders. Crisis first aid skills will be learned to help families address substance overdose, suicidal behaviour, panic attacks, acute stress reaction, and psychotic episodes.
This training will be held at 66 Moore Avenue, our newest location in Winnipeg, on Thursday, September 17 AND Friday, September 18, 2015. The training runs from 9am – 4pm both days. We request that participants cover the $30 cost of the manual (the course is a $175 value).
Should payment be a barrier, please contact Audrey Beaudry (abeaudry@stamant.ca) regarding a subsidy by Thursday, September 3.
