Hi everyone! Here is my message for the month.
This was a difficult summer in our province. Thousands of Manitobans, including many members of the St.Amant community, were affected by the wildfires. I want to thank all of the staff who stepped forward with compassion to offer support and services to people who were evacuated far from home during a scary time.
As we return to the rhythms of fall, let’s remind ourselves of St.Amant’s purpose: to support people to live a good life (whatever that means to them), to belong, and to be respected for their gifts and abilities. Over the months ahead, I will share information about how our strategic plan is bringing us ever closer to our purpose. Today, I am thinking about the importance of community.
Our purpose and belief in community shone through at this year’s graduation ceremonies in the St.Amant School and Autism Programs. I attended three of the ceremonies and was truly moved by the deep connections between staff, students, and families. Staff prepared a slide show and personal message for every graduating student that celebrated their gifts, potential, and their many valued roles in their school and classroom communities. The very best part of each ceremony, though, was the pride and smiles on the face of each graduate. There is nothing like knowing you reached a goal, that you belong, and are important to the people in your life.
Speaking of community, The Free the Spirit Festival is nearly here. Please join me on September 20 at 440 River Road for a day of community, connection, and making a difference. The festival is for everyone and includes a 2k walk/roll and a 5k run. Gather your family, friends and neighbours and enjoy live entertainment, face painting, delicious food and drinks, an artisan market, and more. See you there!
