April 19, 2026
Did you know that over the past year, 553 volunteers shared their time and talents across 57 activities and programs at St.Amant? Each hour, each connection, and each act of kindness helps build a stronger, more inclusive community for the people we support. Their work is rooted in compassion and care, offering comfort without expectation, connection without condition, and kindness that quietly changes lives.
2026 is an exciting year for the volunteer community: The United Nations General Assembly named this year the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development and Volunteer Canada is celebrating by championing the stories of volunteers, Igniting Volunteerism across the country.
In honour of National Volunteer Week (April 19-25), we will be sharing some words from the volunteers who donate their time to make St.Amant such a special place.
Rory Gierek shows up each day with laughter, energy, and just the right amount of mischief. Her loyalty, care, and consistency create something safe, steady, and real for those that she spends time with.
“I have created many memories throughout my time volunteering at St.Amant that have brought joy to my life. One of my favourite memories has been meeting Andie. From the moment we first met, she has always been so cheerful. Every time we are together, her smile and laughter always bring me so much happiness. Through attending book club online, summertime walks in the garden, and of course, playing board games, I have loved getting to know Andie and growing our friendship.
I love volunteering at St.Amant because of the many meaningful connections I have formed. I enjoy connecting with individuals by learning about their interests and personalities, often forming connections through discovering our shared interests. My face always lights up when I see a smile or hear laughter. Seeing the impact I can have on someone by making their day better, truly drives me to keep coming back.
I am so grateful to be a part of this community that is built around supportive, and friendly people. The staff, fellow volunteers, and everyone part of this community, all make St.Amant the welcoming space it is.
If you are thinking about volunteering at St.Amant, definitely do it. You will not regret having the opportunity to form connections and be a part of a positive and welcoming community.”
Thank you, Rory, for graciously sharing your talents, time, and beautiful spirit with the St.Amant family! Please visit our Volunteer page if you are interested in volunteering or would like more information about our Volunteer Services.
