Orange Shirt Day Apparel Available for Order

August 27, 2021

St.Amant is working together with Dream Catchers Promotions, an Indigenous led company to offer staff, families and volunteers orange shirts in time for Orange Shirt Day on September 30.
Orange Shirt Day began in 2013 as a result of residential school survivor Phyllis Jack Webstad discussing her experience when she arrived at a residential school. Webstad shared her story at a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC, in the spring of 2013. On her first day at residential school Phyllis had her new orange shirt taken away from her. Phyllis’ experience is used today to teach people about residential schools and their assimilation practices.
The date of September 30 was chosen for the annual event because it is the time of year in which Indigenous children were historically taken from their homes to residential schools.
On Thursday, September 30, we encourage all staff to wear an orange shirt to acknowledge the harms of the past and support the future path of reconciliation.
*A portion of all sales is donated to The Orange Shirt Society and the IRS Thrivers program in Manitoba*
