Preschool Early Learning Program

Preschool children can access the Early Learning Program which provides up to 20 hours a week of service in a St.Amant classroom or a childcare centre, from Monday to Friday. Children can participate in the program until the September of the year they turn six, or until they receive up to a maximum of two years of services, whichever comes first.

While waiting to access the Early Learning Program, families are eligible to access supports from our Parent Support Model of service. Our Parent Support Model consists access to the Fulfilling Potential Workshop workshop series and consultation on teaching new skills and support with challenging behavior. Families are required to participate in three prerequisite workshops before being eligible for the consultation service.

Visit this page for an up-to-date listing of workshops and events.

Once children graduate from the Early Learning Program and transition to school, they are eligible for the Enhanced Consultative Services, which continue until they graduate high school. The goal of Enhanced Consultative Services is to work in collaboration with education teams to create environments designed to support positive and productive educational experiences in their school settings. Services include consultation on teaching new skills, support with challenging behaviours, and access to presentations and workshops. Parents are encouraged to work with their child’s education team in preparing the referral.

Early Learning Program Activities

Teaching Plans

The program uses applied behaviour analysis as a teaching method to increase skills identified by the individual and their family. Teaching is individualized and a comprehensive assessment is carried out to understand a family’s goals and their child’s needs. Your St.Amant team will develop teaching programs using strategies based on applied behaviour analysis.

Teaching plans are designed to include skills such as communication, social interaction, coping, self-care skills, safety skills, and pre-school academic skills such as printing, colouring, letter recognition, reading, and simple number concepts. In addition, the St.Amant team can assist with behaviours that can interfere with children’s learning and social opportunities. Families are encouraged to participate in workshops available through St.Amant and will receive training and support to carry out teaching goals and teaching plans with their child.

One-To-One Teaching Sessions

Children attend five four-hour learning sessions per week (Monday through Friday). During these learning sessions, children participate in group activities and individualized teaching sessions.

Team Meetings

Parents meet with their St.Amant team to celebrate their child’s successes, discuss progress on goals, revise teaching strategies when needed, and identify new programming goals and priorities. Other clinicians who are part of the child’s team are invited to participate in these meetings.
