About Community Living

The Community Residential Program of St.Amant takes a holistic approach to provide a range of community based residential services and individualized supports to children and adults with developmental disabilities within their communities. We advocate for and support individuals to achieve personal fulfillment.

Through an interdisciplinary team, we promote individualized care by facilitating decisions and independence, in an environment of dignity and respect. Our efforts focus on securing meaningful and lasting solutions. We accomplish this goal by enhancing the individual’s ability to function in a manner which is respectful of their individuality and satisfying to them.

Scope of Services: The Community Residential Program provides a range of services to children and adults who require supports to fully live and participate in the community within Manitoba.

In keeping with the mission and values of St.Amant, the Community Residential Program provides services and supports in a manner that creates an environment that promotes respect, independence, personal responsibility, self-determination, community participation and integration, self and system advocacy, and healthy relationships and lifestyles.

The program respects and builds on an individual’s natural support networks and, more importantly, enables persons with disabilities to have access to resources that ensure that individuals have the right to examine options, make choices, take responsibility, take risks and finally, have the right to make mistakes.

The Community Residential Program operates under the conviction that a broad range of residential and support opportunities should be available to ensure successful integration into community life. The right of citizens with disabilities or special needs to live in the least restrictive environment that simultaneously encourages them to develop to their fullest potential is similarly recognized.

The program works hard to continuously improve services that meet and exceed the expectations of its consumers. Services and supports are based upon individual support plans developed with each individual and their support network to meet his or her
unique needs and goals.

Individuals with special needs and their families will pursue their unique hopes and dreams with assistance that:

  • Is individualized and seamless
  • Lasts as long as needed
  • Involves a variety of community partners
  • Is supportive of family needs
  • We recognize that the family is a source of permanence in every person’s life, and therefore is committed to maintaining family ties for persons living outside their family home.

Individuals and family are best supported within the context of their community. The service system will enhance the opportunities that allow individuals and their families to become connected to the community. Services will focus on supplementing, not replacing the natural support that people receive from family, friends, neighbours and volunteers.

Families will have convenient access to care coordination. Individuals and families want a trusted person to help them find out about and make use of services and supports. Collaboration is the best way to provide comprehensive services. No single agency is able to provide all services to all individuals and families. Cooperation among providers is necessary to provide a flexible, seamless system.
