Set up a Facebook account step-by-step

Start by making sure the person has their own email account to set up Facebook

Go to www.facebook.com and click Create New Account

You will be brought to a page that asks you to enter:

  • First and Last name
  • Birth date
  • Gender
  • Email and Password

A verification code will be sent to the email you used to set up the account, enter this code to activate the account

Once your account is activated you will get this pop-up

Facebook will ask you to add friends, there will be a suggested friends list below or you can use the search bar to looks for friends

Navigating facebook

By clicking on the house icon located on the top of the screen you will be able to access your news feed

Here you will be able to see what your friends are posting as well as groups or pages you are following, create status’, as well as post videos and photos

To create a status or post a video or photo click on the “ whats on your mind” button.

From here you will be able to write a status that will be shared with the people on your friends list

To post a photo or video, click on the photo icon, you will then be able to add a caption to the photo/video and then are able to post it by selecting the post button.

Menu Navigation

In the top right corner of the page there will be an icon with 6 squares, this is your menu.

Here you are able to access:

  • Events you may be interested in or have responded to
  • Your friends and groups you may follow

Profile

To access your own profile, click on the icon that looks like a silhouette of a person or has your own profile picture

This is what your profile will look like , you can then add a header photo and profile photo as well so people know it’s you


In the drop down menu you are also able to access your Settings and Privacy where you are able to adjust these settings to what you would like for your profile

To navigate messages from friends click on the speech bubble icon, messages can also be viewed through a Facebook messenger app with the same icon, this app will need to be downloaded if on a device other than a computer to access messages.

Navigating notifications:

Clicking the bell icon brings a drop down menu of all of your notifications! You can then click each and every individual notification and it will take you to where you need to go
