Dear St.Amant Families,
The news from Dr. Roussin, Manitoba’s Chief Public Health Officer, was grim this week. For anyone who missed the news, they are predicting COVID-19 daily case counts to rise to up to 1000 per day in January. We are bracing for this increase and hoping that although the vaccines won’t keep us from getting COVID-19 that they will keep us from severe and life-threatening illness. Please take this as an important reminder to follow all Public Health guidelines and to be impeccable with the use of masks and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when visiting.
We are again using our contingency plan to ensure that we plan for staff at a time when we anticipate sick calls to be high. We are also continuing our recruitment campaign through the holidays.
This week, we had one new case in a student in the community section of the St.Amant School. Thankfully, the student is recovering at home.
This time of year can be very special and can also be very challenging for people we support, our team members, and for some families as well. The request from Public Health to really think about the number of people we are interacting with, especially over the holidays, asking people not to travel, especially internationally, all of this can be hard in a time where positive change and steps forward are continually followed by news of packed intensive care units and rising COVID-19 cases.
I encourage everyone to take care of one another. To take that extra time to check in on your family, friends and neighbours. Let’s be extra patient and extra kind and give each other a little grace when things don’t go as planned. Thank you for taking the continued changes in stride, and for your ongoing support and compassion.
