Update to St.Amant Families – May 2023

May 31, 2023

Dear St.Amant Families,

As you may know, Health & Transition Services, like other healthcare sites, became mask friendly early in May. That means there is no longer a universal requirement for wearing Personal protective equipment (PPE) for staff, people we support, or visitors at Health & Transition Service.

Along with this change, we are pleased to welcome people back to take part in cultural and spiritual events at 440 River Road. Sunday Mass in St.Amant’s Chapel is now open to all members of our community as well. All of us at St.Amant want to see people included as full members of their community. I am very glad to see people reconnect with fellow members of the St.Amant community at long last.

Manitoba Accessibility Awareness Week takes place May 28 – June 3. The week is dedicated to promoting accessibility and raising awareness about the importance of creating inclusive communities. At St.Amant, accessibility means participation for all people. Accessibility is a clear expression of our core values. I invite you to read our current Accessibility Plan and share any suggestions on increasing accessibility at St.Amant.

June means summer is approaching. It’s also Graduation Month! This year, six students are graduating from St.Amant School. Later this summer, in August, 76 children are graduating from St.Amant’s Early Learning Program! Our staff celebrate the gifts of each student and support them in learning new skills that will help them as they move on to the following stages of their lives. We are so proud of everything the students have achieved. Congratulations to all of our graduates!

On June 21, National Indigenous People’s Day, the community is invited to gather at 440 River Road for a sunrise ceremony to honour the arrival of the first day of summer. Everyone is welcome to join us in a mid-morning teaching on the new season and a smudge ceremony as we light a sacred fire in the spirit of happiness, love, and belonging.

St.Amant is currently working with consultants to develop a strategy for implementing our Truth and Reconciliation action plan and to help guide us on the journey of Truth and Reconciliation. I will have more to share on this soon.
