Catholic Health Network

The Catholic Health Network was founded in October 2000 when the Grey Nuns of Manitoba transferred to the Catholic Health Corporation of Manitoba the stewardship, governance and ownership of their health care works:

The Corporation is incorporated under the Canada Corporations Act (January 25, 1999) and has been conferred the status of Public Juridic Person by the Roman Catholic Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life (July 7, 1999, Vatican).

In June 2004, the Sisters of the Order of St. Benedict officially transferred their healthcare works (Winnipegosis & District Health Centre and St. Joseph’s Residence) to the Catholic Health Corporation of Manitoba. In 2005, two new works join the network: Résidence Despins in the former Grey Nun Provincial House and Centre Flavie-Laurent on Marion Street in Winnipeg.

In April 2008, the Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd (Canada) signed an agreement to transfer the ownership of Marymound Inc. to the Catholic Health Corporation of Manitoba.

In October 2008, the Catholic Health Corporation of Manitoba created a new work, Abri Marguerite Inc., a housing complex for new immigrants.

The Members of the Corporation are named by the Sisters of Charity of Montreal (Grey Nuns). The members exercise their stewardship and governance responsibilities by electing the Board of Directors to govern the corporation on their behalf.

The CHCM Board of Directors is responsible for the management of the affairs of the corporation. The Board of Directors is comprised of representatives from each of the sponsored works. The Catholic Health Corporation Board also has the responsibility of naming the Board members of each of the 14 sponsored organizations which are part of the network. The Board reports annually to the Members and to the Holy See (Vatican).
