Black History Month Staff Feature – Oroboudu Tokulah-Mai  Moussa

February 29, 2024

Oruboudu Tukulah-Mai Moussa is a Case Supervisor for Foster Services at St.Amant. For more than 16 years, she has been a valuable employee and has worked in different roles up to the current one.

Oruboudu was excited to talk about her thoughts on Black History Month as she felt this was an opportunity to share how she celebrates her background and culture at work. Oruboudu’s busy schedule includes working on reports, home visits all over Manitoba, meetings at the office, and working remotely, among other responsibilities.

She is also an active advocate. As part of the St.Amant Diversity & Inclusion Committee, Oroboudu participates in ongoing projects promoting education, dialogue, and celebration of diversity at St.Amant and in the local community.

“I live St.Amant values. Collaboration, Hospitality, Excellence, and Respect are at the core of everything I do. I also make sure to bring a positive attitude wherever I go – it is powerful and can change someone’s day for the better.”

For Oroboudu, Black History Month is every day. She lives and celebrates her Nigerian background in many different ways, especially through bright-coloured clothing, her faith, and food.

“The cultural diversity here at St.Amant is amazing. One of my favourite ways to share my culture is with food. I love to bring typical dishes from Nigeria to our potluck parties at work. I enjoy to talk about the flavours and how the dishes are made. It’s also a way to remind myself where I came from and who I am. And I am grateful for who I am.”

Oruboudu’s passion for her work is truly inspiring. She is always willing to go above and beyond to make sure that children at St.Amant Foster Services and their foster families are set to thrive. When asked what’s the best part of her job, she answers:

“People! I love the people. My job includes visiting homes. When I meet the kids and see their growth and development, the light on their faces when they are happy fills me with joy. It doesn’t feel like a job; it feels like a calling, and I enjoy every single part of it.”

We wrap up the month of February by celebrating Black History Month with our staff and community. Oroboudu remarks that everyone likes and deserves to feel valued and included and that it’s our mission to make St.Amant a place of opportunity for all.
