Overview

St.Amant’s Health and Transitional Respite Services offers over-night respite care for families and caregivers of individuals with complex medical needs. We currently have five respite spaces located at St.Amant’s Health & Transition Service at 440 River Road.

This service is available to individuals of all ages with complex medical needs, such as cuffed and un-cuffed tracheostomies, and G or G-J tubes.

This respite service offers access to 24/7 nursing care, and services such as occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech-language pathology, school, and recreational activities while receiving respite care at Health and Transition Services (440 River Road)

Who Qualifies?

This service is available to individuals of all ages with complex medical needs.

Referrals can be made by completing an initial referral form and sent to Central Intake at intake@stamant.ca

Currently, there is no waitlist to access Health and Transitional Respite Services. However, referrals are triaged based on the order received, and the urgency of the situation.

Can I access this service on an emergency basis? 

No, this service is not available on an emergency basis.

Are visitors allowed during a respite stay? 

Yes, please contact Central Intake to arrange a visit.

What types of activities and recreation are offered?

St.Amant’s Volunteer Services offers various activities such as bike rides within the St.Amant building, and accessing the pool. For school-aged children, individuals can access the St.Amant School.

Q:

Can my family member be transported to and from school, work, or day program while receiving respite?

Families are responsible for transportation to community activities, such as day programming or schooling. Please note that the details must be discussed with the Respite Social Worker and approved by the unit manager. However, if they are attending the St.Amant school, transportation is not needed.

Q:

Do you have to be COVID-19 vaccinated to access the service?

No, but it is highly recommended. COVID-19 vaccinations are mandatory for all St.Amant staff.
