Update to St.Amant Families – May 14, 2021

May 14, 2021

Dear St.Amant Families,
Over the past week we have seen the largest increase in Covid-19 positive cases to date within our community and within our organization. We have 6 new cases in staff and 8 new cases in people we support. Our total active Covid-19 case numbers are 12 staff and 10 people we support. These cases are in:
Community Residential Program People Supported: 8
Community Services People Supported: 2
Autism Programs Staff: 1
Community Residential Program Staff: 9
Community Services Staff: 1
Health & Transition Services Staff: 1
We want you to know that we are working diligently to ensure that everyone we support is well monitored and cared for. We have redirected our community nursing staff to make rounds to our community sites to monitor and evaluate the people who are Covid-19 positive. The nurses and team leaders are also revisiting Personal Protective Equipment protocols with all staff to ensure that everyone is using it correctly.
The increase in Covid-19 positives is not a surprise as we saw in the fall that when the cases went up in our community as a whole, we saw that increase in our organization. Our hope is that with the new restrictions in place, and vaccines rolling out to everyone 12 years and older, we will start to see the positivity rate in our province decrease soon.
I want to thank all of the families who reached out to say they could help if staffing became a challenge. Currently our staffing is manageable. Our front line staff remain incredibly positive, committed and compassionate. We have staff volunteering to work in areas where needed, and staff morale is very good.
We strongly feel that with increased vaccines, we are closing in on the end of this pandemic. We can look to our neighbouring countries to see the hope as they are beginning to return to pre-pandemic activities. We just need to hold on a little longer.
I want to thank you all for your continued support, for reaching out when you have questions and for helping us ensure that we are doing everything we can to support your family members.
John Leggat
President & CEO
