Update to Health & Transition Services Families – April 29, 2020

April 29, 2020

Hello,

I hope everyone is doing well.  The H&TS team understands how challenging this time has been for families. With all of the associated restrictions, we want to ensure we do our best to update you on how things are going here at 440 River Road.

The most recent test results that we were waiting for have come back negative for COVID-19, influenza, and RSV. We continue to support one another by ensuring all of the required PPE is in place and available for use when needed. As you are aware, this has been an area that seems to evolve throughout this pandemic so we continue to provide the most recent updates as shared with us through Shared Health. Ensuring the safety and wellness for all those supported as well as those working at H&TS continues to be the priority for the Leadership team. I would continue to encourage you to reach out to the manager of each of the service areas if you have any questions or concerns you need to be clarified.

As I have said, we understand the challenges with the required restrictions that are in place. We feel for families, and the emotional burden this creates for you. The following is an initiative that may be of interest to the families of those living at H&TS, to help ease some of that burden.

We are inviting families to participate in “Window Wishes”, an opportunity to have some up-close and personal time with your loved one while adhering to our current virus protection plan.

We have identified an area in St.Amant’s day service where you can visit through a glass door. As well, we will have a speakerphone available so you can use your cell to call once you’re here and make the conversation a bit more enjoyable. With spring finally looking like it has arrived, the time is right to roll out this option. And so the Window Wishes begins today.

There is signage in place outside to guide you to the designated visiting area. We will have our recreation staff bring your loved one to this area at a mutually scheduled time for a visit.

While many families are using voice phone calls and FaceTime calls to visit, and these seem to be going well, we hope the “Window Wishes” visit allows for a more physical presence and connection with your loved ones. If you haven’t already been in contact with us about scheduling a visit, just call your Recreation Instructor and they will be glad to set something up with you. They can be reached at:

Marlon Braun – Adult Health Services Instructor, extension 4413

Jennifer Tymofichuk – Child and Young Adult Health Services Instructor, extension 4291

Ed Charbonneau – Adult Services Instructor, extension 4309

Stabilization Services, extension 4244

Each week, our Communications team shares a number of stories that celebrate the staff who are supporting your loved ones. The series, entitled “St.Amant Heroes”, tells a story and shares a photo or two highlighting how people are rising up to meet and exceed the current challenges. From frontline staff and administrative supports to environmental services, there is no shortage of inspiring stories of how programs and services continue to nurture the St.Amant mission and values each and every day. A testament to how everyone respects the collective work we do, and to the love that we have for your family.

One more note, if you had not heard, staff, volunteers, and friends throughout the organization are sharing in a “Convoy of Support” on Thursday and again on Saturday. Click here for more information, and consider joining the convoy!

We continue to think of you often. Keep well and we’ll keep in touch.

Kind regards,

Todd MacDonald
Senior Manager, Health and Transition Services
