Update to Health & Transition Services Families – May 8, 2020

May 8, 2020

Hello,

Your family members are doing well.  We are pleased to report that our facility continues to have no positive cases of COVID-19. Our staff and your loved ones are healthy and are taking advantage of the sunshine and warmer weather in our Buhler Garden space. We have heard from a number of you that the Window Wishes program is going well.  Thank you for the feedback on the original chairs that were provided. We have purchased higher, more stable chairs and they are on the deck. We continue to advocate with Shared Health for outdoor visits similar to what has been recommended for people supported in community homes and will let you know if/when we receive any updates. In the meantime, we are committed to keeping people connected through virtual and window visits.

For those of you with school-aged children, the school staff continues to provide daily programming. We received four additional iPads from a generous donor and we purchased an additional four to facilitate the virtual visits with you, and to support individualized virtual programming.

A number of you have asked about the single staffing model initiated in licensed Personal Care Homes on May 1, 2020. The Province continues to review the impacts of this Public Health Order, and we will be sure to update you if this order expands to include H&TS at St.Amant.

We wish all of the Mothers a very Happy Mother’s Day! This is not how anyone would plan to celebrate this special day, and we know that many of you (and us) will miss visiting with our Moms and children this year.  We hope that your warm memories and knowledge that we are keeping your loved ones as safe as possible during this challenging time will help ease some of your sadness. Please know that we are thinking of you all and that you are not in this alone.

Be well.

Joanne van Dyck,
Senior Manager, Health & Transition Services
