St.Amant Partnering With The Province To End Hotel Stays For Youth

June 15, 2015

As part of Minister of Family Services Kerri Irvin-Ross’ ongoing commitment to end hotel stays for children, St.Amant is recruiting 10 emergency foster beds for youth aged 8-17 with developmental disabilities. Children with disabilities who require emergency foster care come from all backgrounds and have many reasons for support. The foster care providers will create a better future for children who need it most, by providing a safe, warm, temporary home.

“The role of a foster care provider is to offer emotional support and a nurturing environment,” said Leanne Fenez, Director of St.Amant’s Community Residential Program.

Child & Family Services, Family Services & Housing and St.Amant are partnering together to find up to10 families who will comply with all legislation, regulations and provincial standards.

“These temporary stays from one week to six months are critical as we can meet the unique needs of the child during a critical time, a time when they are in transition and need stability and support more than ever,” said Fenez. “The foster parents wouldn’t be doing it alone as respite and support workers will work together to provide care.”

Families receive mandatory foster care training and additional training deemed pertinent to the youth’s needs. Those interested in becoming an emergency foster care provider can visit stamant.ca/fostercare for more information on how to apply.
