St.Amant Celebrates Aboriginal Awareness Week With Summer Solstice Ceremony

Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and St.Amant are celebrating National Aboriginal Day. While National Aboriginal Day is on June 21, the region will be celebrating all week long with events at several of their facilities. Take time to participate in the festivities which include ceremonies, feasts, drum groups and singers.

St.Amant
Summer Solstice Ceremony – Gymnasium
1:30 pm – 3:30 pm
St.Amant will be hosting Elder Betty Ross, an Aboriginal Singer/Drummer and of course we will be enjoying some refreshments following the ceremony!
1:30 PM – Smudging
1:45 PM – Opening Prayer
2:00 PM – Teaching on Summer Season
2:15 PM – Aboriginal Singer/Drummer
2:30 PM – Bannock, Berries, Refreshments
Please note that women attending should be wearing long skirts for the ceremony as per traditional protocol, and that there will be smudging taking place at 1:30pm. Individuals who are sensitive to smudge smoke should enter at approximately 2:00pm.

The Gift of Ceremony: Aboriginal Peoples and Wellness
Aboriginal Health Programs – Health Education presents the annual CEO Grand Rounds in Aboriginal Health, our anchor event for the region’s Aboriginal Awareness Week.
We welcome Niigaan Sinclair, Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba and author, who will talk about the Indigenous concept of ceremony and wellness in relationship to today’s healthcare practitioner.
Niigaan is well known for his engaging and relevant commentary on Indigenous issues both locally and nationally and this event is sure to provide perspective and knowledge health care staff can use in their everyday work.
