McMaster University Seeking Parents for Online Program on Child Neurodevelopmental Research

November 22, 2019

McMaster University and Kids Brain Health Network are running an online course on Family Engagement for researchers (graduate student trainees, research coordinators, investigators, etc.) and families (parents and siblings) who have an interest in child neurodevelopmental research. From its inception the course has been developed in partnership by parents and researchers and will be delivered by both experienced parents and researchers.
The course is unique in that it will bring researchers and families together in a fully integrated 10-week (30 hours) online course. Course work will involve live online (synchronous) discussions, review of written materials and case studies, as well as collaborative online (asynchronous) group exercises. Families and researchers will work in pairs to create a knowledge translation tool in the area of family engagement in research. Learners will gain a better understanding of:

  • Family engagement in research (why it is important)
  • How to engage families throughout the research process
  • Barriers/facilitators to engagement
  • Ethics surrounding engagement
  • Tools and resources to support and evaluate engagement activities

By the end of the course, learners will be ready to partner on integrated research teams. Successful completion of the course will result in a McMaster University and Kids Brain Health Network Certificate of Completion.
Course Dates
Winter 2020 Session: January 20, 2020 – March 29, 2020
Course Fees
Scholarships will be provided by Kids Brain Health Network (KBHN) to cover course registration costs. This is a research project funded by KBHN, so participants will be invited to participate in evaluation of the program. Space is limited to 30 students per cohort.
