Attendees will learn how to define and assess challenging behaviours. The use of proactive strategies will be reviewed such as using visual supports. Basic evidence-based treatment strategies will also be reviewed, including positive reinforcement, extinction and functional communication training.

February 24 | 12-1pm | West Dining Room, St.Amant
This presentation will cover why it is difficult to do the “right thing” when managing challenging behaviours and how to cope with the stress of managing these behaviours. It will touch on functions of the behaviours of the individual being supported as well as their caregivers, the impact of these behaviours, reflections on why we choose to support these individuals, how to be safe and access appropriate training, how to reduce stress, how to feel supported and in turn provide support to others, and adopting mindful acceptance.
