Congrats to Abigail Graff, St.Amant Music Therapist, on her big win this past week.
Three University of Winnipeg students took the top prize in their category at an international competition. Abigail Graff, Jenna Dyck, and Michele Catalano won first prize at the third annual American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMT) Student Ethics Competition. The three students are in the Master of Marriage and Family Therapy (MMFT) program at UWinnipeg.“I was so excited to hear this news,” said Dr. Narumi Taniguchi, Director of the Marriage and Family Therapy Program. “I am very proud of these students. Their outstanding achievement demonstrates their hard work and the quality of education and training that the MMFT program offers. It will be a great opportunity for Abby, Jenna, and Michele to go to the AAMFT conference representing UWinnipeg and Canada.”
The AAMT Student Ethics Competition is designed to encourage marriage and family therapy students to foster an interest in ethics issues and enhance their ability to analyze and respond to the various ethics issues that they will undoubtedly encounter throughout their careers. In this team competition, participants submitted an essay analyzing and responding to a hypothetical scenario. Graff, Dyck, and Catalano will head to Louisville, Kentucky where they will be recognized at the annual AAMT in November. They will also receive a cash award for their win.
“Our team entered the competition to learn and engage with ethical thinking in the field of Marriage and Family Therapy”, shared Graff, Dyck, and Catalanothe.
“We are thrilled to attend the AAMFT conference. This will be a wonderful opportunity for us to learn about emerging research and clinical practice in the field of Marriage and Family Therapy. We look forward to collecting information and resources that we can share with our peers in the MMFT program.”
The UWinnipeg team surfaced to the top of 28 international submissions in the master’s/post-degree institute category. The submissions were scored by current and former members of the ethics committee and current and former members of the judicial committee.
