You Increased Confidence and Independence

April 27, 2023

Aaron likes to say “I live in the smartest home around!” and it is all thanks to you! Your generosity gave Aaron the technology he needed to feel confident and comfortable in his home.

It’s important for Aaron’s mental health that he knows what’s going to happen next. He relies on routine and structure to feel at ease. He frequently asks “what’s the next step?” Knowing this about him, his support staff saw an opportunity to use technology that empowers Aaron to manage his own schedule.

This predictability reduced his anxiety and increased his independence.

Writing is difficult for Aaron, which makes it hard for him to keep track of important events in his life. Thanks to new smart home technology like an Alexa, funded by donor support, he now creates calendar reminders and grocery lists by using his voice! He even gets Alexa it to leave notes for his staff and to create to do lists. He loves lists!

Alexa also helps him find recipes, tells him jokes, and plays games.

Aaron thrives in a calm atmosphere, and thanks to your generosity, his home has been equipped with all the tools he needs to make his home as relaxing and comfortable as possible.

He has technology that can set the tone in his space to suit his mood. He uses dim, warm coloured lights, calming music, and an electric fireplace for times of relaxation. He even has a sunrise setting that uses the lights to wake him up in the morning gradually.

It’s not always “chill time” at Aaron’s. He’s also a huge sports fan! He has a Jets-themed bedroom, and he uses his smart home tech to change his lights to blue and red for the ultimate game night vibe. “Alexa, turn the lights to Go Jets Go!”

His mom, Susan, is amazed by the smart home technology that has been implemented by his support staff and the difference it is making for Aaron. “These guys are much more technology savvy than we are, and the gadgets they have set up have helped Aaron tremendously!”

There were times when Aaron’s anxiety would overwhelm him. Now that he can use this technology to make lists or notes whenever he wants, it helps to get many of his anxious thoughts out of his head. Susan marvels at how much it has helped.

Other smart home tech that is making Aaron’s life easier is a smart lock, a smart doorbell with a camera, and even a cereal dispenser that ensures he has the perfect portion size every time.

Before the smart lock was installed, Aaron would sometimes be so worried about losing his keys that it would take all the joy out of his outings. This new technology allows him to enjoy going out with friends and family instead of stressing about losing his keys.

When Aaron is asked what his favorite smart tool is, he smiles widely and says, “All of it!”

Thank you for making his house a home!

Making the Ride a Little Easier for Everyone

May 20, 2022

Making the Ride a Little Easier for Everyone

Naomi and Junsay heard the word autism for the first time when their son Isaiah was diagnosed at age three.

“We had no idea what that meant for him, for our family, we didn’t know how to help him,” said Naomi.

This is when the Mateo family was first introduced to St.Amant and the Autism Program – something that changed their lives forever.

“I wish I would have taken a before and after video of Isaiah, he’s five now.  The changes are amazing, and not only for him, for me and my husband, we’ve learned so much about Isaiah and how we can help him thrive.”

The Mateo family didn’t know how to express their gratitude until they heard about the Autism Ride.

“Junsay has an interest in motorcycles but never really rode. When he heard there was a fundraiser that was going to support the program that changed his son’s life, he was in. He was so excited to be able to mix two things that he loves together.”

Junsay went for the longest ride of his life last September and he got his buddies to come along! Team Isaiah, with Junsay at the helm,  was the top fundraiser for the event.

“He was so sore after the ride! But he was also so excited, he had never been part of a motorcycle ride like this before!”

“As parents of a kid with autism, we know how hard it can be, we wanted to get involved to try and make things a little easier for the next family who is hearing the word autism for the first time.”

Making the Ride a Little Easier for Everyone

Buying a raffle ticket and joining the ride helps make the journey a little easier for kids like Isaiah.
The St.Amant Autism Ride welcomes all riders, new and veteran, to support a great cause! It’s the perfect opportunity to test your motorcycle skills and maybe even stretch past your comfort zone with a group of community-minded riders out there for a good time. Great people, good food, and amazing prizes to raise money for an important cause are the recipe for a fun day.

JUNE 11 UPDATE: Nearly $80,000 was raised from this year’s Autism Ride & Raffle. Proceeds will purchase the necessary tools children with autism need to give them the best chance to succeed in kindergarten – from smartboards, computers, iPads with specialized apps, toys, and much more!

Jarrid Loves a Good Mystery!

May 10, 2022

Thanks to your donation, Jarrid now has new mysteries to solve during the St.Amant APPLE program. APPLE is an acronym for Adult Program: People Learning Everyday. This class combines learning, literacy, and socializing. Facilitators Denise and Ed tailor class content to the interests of their participants. Your recent support helped to purchase new learning tools.

These items make learning more tangible, interactive, and FUN. A new digital microscope connects to the smartboard and shows clear, close-up imagery. This is perfect for examining things like plant roots and insects. New puzzle games and a murder mystery case encourage finding solutions, and the inflatable solar system and constellation projector turns the classroom into a planetarium.

Jarrid Loves a Good Mystery!

“Ed and I are trying to make learning fun and interactive and these tools help bring everything together.
The expression on their faces says it all,” declared Denise. Thank you for making learning more fun!
