Accessibility for Manitobans Act Update

May 7, 2024

In our ongoing commitment to championing inclusivity and accessibility, it’s essential to stay informed about the measures in place to support our community. One such crucial legislation that directly affects us is the Accessibility for Manitobans Act (AMA).

The AMA is a landmark piece of legislation designed to remove barriers and promote equal access for all Manitobans, including individuals with disabilities. It outlines standards in five key areas: customer service, employment, information and communications, transportation, and the built environment. By addressing these areas comprehensively, the AMA aims to create a more accessible and inclusive society where everyone can participate fully.

For our families here at St.Amant, the AMA offers significant benefits and protections. It ensures that our loved ones with disabilities have access to essential services without encountering barriers. Whether it’s accessing public transportation, navigating public spaces, or seeking employment opportunities, the AMA works to break down barriers and create a level playing field for all.

One notable aspect of the AMA is its emphasis on collaboration and engagement with stakeholders, including individuals with disabilities, service providers, and the broader community. This collaborative approach ensures that the standards set forth by the AMA are practical, effective, and reflective of the diverse needs of Manitobans.

As families, it’s essential for us to be aware of our rights and the resources available to us under the AMA. By familiarizing ourselves with the standards outlined in the legislation, we can advocate more effectively for the rights and needs of our loved ones with disabilities.

At St.Amant, we are committed to supporting our families every step of the way as we navigate the landscape of accessibility and inclusivity. Through education, advocacy, and community engagement, we can work together to ensure that the principles of the Accessibility for Manitobans Act are upheld, and that every individual has the opportunity to thrive. Please see the St.Amant Accessibility Plan here.

We’re also thrilled to share news about the recent installation of accessible bathrooms at St. Vital Centre, a testament to our ongoing efforts to create inclusive spaces within our community.
