St.Amant commits to being leader in accessibility

February 22, 2022

St.Amant’s Accessibility Planning Committee invited feedback from staff, families and people we support, to identify accessibility priorities for the organization’s second Accessibility Plan.

St.Amant staff were asked to identify the most important accessibility barriers they see in their day-to-day work. People we support, families and other stakeholders were also invited to participate in a survey and a focus group to explore accessibility barriers at St.Amant and to identify accessibility priorities. The Accessibility Planning Committee reviewed the recommendations and selected accessibility priorities based on the survey results as well as criteria that included cost, impact, and risk.

A series of coordinated project plans will be developed to support the completion of the actions identified in our second Accessibility Plan.

The committee also established a new statement of commitment.

Statement of Commitment to Accessibility

All people have the right to participate fully in their community. St.Amant commits to

  • Be fully accessible for the people we support, their families and teams, and our staff;
  • Be a leader in Manitoba for accessibility;
  • Share our knowledge and skills; and
  • Stand up for all people’s rights.

Accessibility Plans at St.Amant

Accessibility is an expression of St.Amant’s core values and mission. That is why we committed to meeting all accessibility standards according to the public sector timeline, instead of the later timeline for non-profit organizations. For the same reason, St.Amant is committed to creating and updating its accessibility plan even though, as a non-profit organization, it is not mandatory. This document is St.Amant’s second accessibility plan.
