Sharon’s Story: Staying in Touch

Meet Sharon.

Before the pandemic, Sharon was very active with a variety of leisure guide activities and outings, so online activities, music, and games have become a welcome outlet for her.

Sharon loves socializing with friends. She is 44 years old and has been supported by St.Amant in a community home since 2006. The COVID-19 pandemic means she has not been able to attend leisure guide activities or exercise at the gym. Instead, she has been going for walks in her neighbourhood, exploring parks, and attending online music therapy sessions.

Donations recently provided Sharon with an iPad and she has been using it to stay in touch with her family. Her mother recently passed away so maintaining connections is very important for her mental health. Sharon video chats regularly with her sister and nieces and nephews that live in Chicago. It also keeps her connected with her father, especially when visitation was restricted due to the pandemic.

She looks forward to the return of coffee dates with friends, breakfast club with other people supported by St.Amant, birthday parties, and making use of her YMCA membership. Sharon loves to go swimming and walking on the track or treadmill and misses it. Until then, thanks to you,  her new iPad is helping to bridge the gap and keep her connected to family and friends.

Sharon would like to tell you, “Thank you very much! I’m happy!”
